Steven J. Backes
Chief Executive Officer
Steve was recently a partner of Borealis Medical Capital, a private equity fund based in Minneapolis. Steve has been a founder or CEO of several early stage medical and financial technology companies over the past 15 years. Prior to that he was a manager of the systems building practice of Andersen Consulting (now Accenture), a leading international management consulting firm. Steve specialized in the design and implementation of workflow and imaging technologies. Steve is a co-inventor on seven patents and applications in remote patient management, web-based patient care, and patient data management. Steve attended the Masters of Business Administration program at Boston University, and has a B.S., Quantitative Methods, from St. Cloud State University.

Edward Scott
Vice President, Sales
Edward came to Atirix from Provox where he was a regional sales director and the sales leader for many of Provox’s major clients. He also worked in sales with the Dictaphone division of Nuance, as well as with MDProductivity, a speech technologies company acquired by 3M Healthcare. Edward has worked for 16 years in healthcare sales. He has a B.A. in International Affairs from Florida State University.

James Ness, C.P.A. (inactive), M.B.A.
Consulting Chief Financial Officer
Jim is consulting CFO. Jim has specialized in serving as a consulting CFO since 1999. Jim, along with his wife Nancy Ness, has advised a number of the leading venture-funded medical device companies in the Twin Cities, including Velocimed, EV3, Vital Images, and Anulex. Prior to consulting Jim was CFO of CFR Corporation. Prior to that he was an Audit Manager with Veckich Arkema & Silverman & Olson, a regional audit firm. Jim passed the Uniform CPA exam in 1983. Jim has an M.B.A. from the Carlson School of Management, University of Minnesota and a B.A. from Luther College in Decorah, IA.

Gary Manninen, M-EE
Vice President, Engineering
Gary leads our product development efforts. Gary was recently a senior software engineer with Goodrich Technologies, an aerospace engineering company. Prior to that he was a senior software engineer developing Web-based Class II technologies for remote patient management. Gary has a Masters and B.S. in Electrical Engineering, with Honors, from University of Minnesota.

Lance Caven
Vice President, Operations
Lance leads our client implementation, training and support areas. Lance is a Company co-founder and also was there for the original white board sessions. Prior to joining Atirix, Lance was a Director of Network Operations for Universal Hospital Services, with responsibility for networks and systems at 85 remote locations nationwide. Lance has a B.S., Computer Science, from University of Wisconsin, River Falls.

Scott Hudson
Vice President, Implementation Services
Scott was formerly VP, Engineering, of Provox. He is now general manager of the Roanoke office and leads the Provox implementation efforts. He is an original employee of Provox, and was involved in the development of all major Provox software components. He has a BS, Mathematics, from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech).
